Costco is accused of misleading customers by marketing its Kirkland Signature Nature’s Domain dog food as healthy and safe while allegedly concealing the risk of heart disease in pets.
A lawsuit filed in late June 2026 that points to scientific research linking wheat-free diets to dilated cardiomyopathy, which can lead to heart failure in dogs, reports Seattle Times.
The suit also refers to a 2019 FDA study of 16 brands, including some wheat-free brands, to be linked to the disease.
Critics argue that the product was advertised without adequate warnings, leading consumers to make fraudulent purchases about its safety.
The complaint seeks damages from pet owners who bought the food believing it did not pose a health hazard.
Costco has not publicly commented on the lawsuits.
Consumers say they were tricked into buying a product that could harm their pets’ health, prompting the group to take action to hold them accountable and pay.
The company has been accused of false advertising and failing to disclose known risks associated with grain-free foods.
Consumers say the ad creates false confidence in the product’s safety for pet health.
