San Francisco police arrested a suspect early Friday after a Molotov cocktail was thrown at the home of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
According to a report in NBC Newspolice responded to Altman’s San Francisco home in North Beach around 4:12 a.m. PT after receiving a report of a fire. Investigators said an unidentified person threw an incendiary device, which started a fire at the front gate before fleeing the scene.
Police described the device as a Molotov cocktail or similar weapon. Police later detained the man near the OpenAI headquarters after he threatened to set the building on fire.
When police arrived, they identified the man as the same suspect and took him into custody. According to reports, the police have not named the suspect but say he is a 20-year-old man. Officials say charges are pending and the case remains under investigation.
“This morning, someone threw a Molotov cocktail at Sam Altman’s home and threatened our headquarters in San Francisco,” an OpenAI spokesperson said. Decrypt. “Fortunately, no one was injured.
