BitMEX Exchange Announces Suspension, Ending 11-Year Run

The BitMEX exchange will close on September 23, 2026, at 04:00 UTC. The group announced the closure on Thursday and said the decision was made after a thorough review of the business.

The Seychelles-based company immediately suspended the registration of all new accounts. It told users to close positions and withdraw funds ahead of time.

What the Closure Means for Users

BitMEX launched a slow phase-out before the deadline. From August 26, it will block new sites and allow only reductions.

The exchange will force the open market to settle the market in an orderly manner. Any site that will be left closed will be closed automatically.

Unreleased banks also have a cost. Users who complete a Know Your Customer (KYC) check are paid monthly with 50 USD or 1% per year, whichever is higher.

BitMEX has withdrawn all BMEX Token (BMEX) and returned it to the account. It also warned traders about scams linked to news.
