Market Slides Again as Bitcoin Fails at $67,000

Where are crypto prices today?

Only three things in the top 15 are green for the day: Monero, UNUS SED LEO and – incidentally – nothing else. Zcash is the worst performer of the bunch, down nearly 6% in 24 hours and more than 11% for the week after a big run.

What stopped Bitcoin at $67,000?

Bitcoin’s July recovery was real. $BTC hit $66,990 on July 21, its highest price since mid-June, and is up 15.9% from the $57,803 low recorded on July 1. The move went straight to opposition traders who had been in the know for weeks.

Analysts noted that Bitcoin rose to its highest level in more than a month but the rally was not quick, arguing that a decisive break above the previous $67,000 would be needed to open the way to $73,000. That break never came. In fact, BTC has been rejected and it has been many days since its decline, the 50-day EMA is still above the price and is increasing every test this year.

The momentum disappeared almost as confidence seemed to be at its strongest: trading volume fell 12% to $150 billion, open interest remained at around $116 billion, and withdrawals came at a paltry $165 million – leaving traders unsure whether this was taking ordinary profits or another failure.

The Reason for the Crypto Crash: Why is the crypto market down today?

There is no single cause. Several pressures accumulate simultaneously:

  • Oil and inflation. Bitcoin fell below $66,000 as oil prices again began to affect inflation, and the shift in risk was also reflected within crypto as BTC dominance rose to 59% and capital moved away from altcoins. As of July 23, none above $ 100 barrels together with a large drop in US equities pulled Bitcoin back under $65,000, and Ethereum and Dogecoin each down 3% per day.
  • ETFs go abroad. Spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded their first outflow in seven days on July 23, despite prices above $64,000. This is important because inflows were what contributed to the July explosion.
  • Turn up the heat. Total liquidations hit $282 million on July 24 – $192 million from long positions – while $1.43 billion in Bitcoin and Ethereum options ended the same day. Emotions took a turn for the worse, with the Fear and Greed Index dropping to 37, firmly in the fear zone.
  • Geopolitics. Renewed tensions between the U.S. and Iran sent global markets into a tailspin, with further fighting and mounting tensions dampening hopes that an end to the crisis is imminent.
  • Bad headlines from the companies themselves. Poolin Technology, once the largest Bitcoin mining pool, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the US with debts between $100 million and $500 million – a day after the derivatives exchange BitMEX announced it Close it on 30 September.

Did the entire market follow Bitcoin down?

Almost completely, yes. Ethereum extended its correction after failing to work above the $1,900 resistance, falling to around $1,800 and erasing the gains made earlier in the week, when XRP was rejected near $1.14 and Dogecoin sold off as traders cut exposure to risk factors. The return was broad: almost every stock in the CoinDesk 20 Index sold lower, with Sui, Cardano’s ADA and NEAR leading the way down 3-4% and Solana down around 2.5%.

The real difference is within the privacy field. Monero is up 2.74% on the day and around 12% on the week, while Zcash – the biggest gainer in the sector in the past months – is resting hard. It seems like a rotation within the topic and not a new investment into it.

Zoom out and the year is still brutal. XRP is down about 41% year-to-date, Solana down 40.6%, Dogecoin down 40.7%, Ethereum down 37.5%. Only TRON (+15.95%) and Hyperliquid (+135.88%) are greener in 2026.

Bitcoin Price Analysis: What are the Bitcoin Shares?

The question that remains is whether the $64,000 will hold. Bitcoin was holding between $64,000 and $66,800 for the last week, and today’s price is just below that.

On the upside, the first resistance zone runs $65,000–$66,500, and a close above it is needed to confirm a real breakout of $68,000–$70,000. On the lower side, first aid is $63,000–$64,000, while the most important position is $60,000–$62,000. Below, the area of $ 58,000-$ 60,000 is the part that many experts consider to be the most important – a continuous break below $ 58,000 risks causing a stoppage and closing at $ 50,000.

What traders should look for this week

The Fed is the boss. The prospect of a Fed rate hike was already cited as one of the reasons why crypto sold off on July 24, and the rally arrived. July 28-29. A hawkish tone would remove the last argument for a July recovery to continue.

Beyond that: whether the ETF will do well, whether oil will return from the $85–$100 zone, and whether the CLARITY Act will resume in Washington after its suspension.

Glassnode has said that the long-term environment has not yet reached the pain associated with a reduced cycle – the stress is there, but the picture is open rather than resolved.
