A Minnesota financial institution with $1.7 trillion in assets under management has suffered its second security breach in less than six months.
According to a report provided by Ameriprise Financial (NYSE: AMP) to the Maine Attorney General’s office, the latest breach occurred on March 2nd and was discovered on March 18. The incident affected 47,876 people.
In a data breach notification sent on April 17, Robert Severson of Ameriprise’s privacy office said the victims may have had their name, address, date of birth, account numbers and social security number exposed.
Severson says victims should monitor their accounts and register for fraud alerts and security freezes with major credit bureaus to protect themselves from information misuse.
“Unfortunately, it has been confirmed that there has been an opportunity to gain access to your personal information…Be alert when you receive a call from someone claiming to be Ameriprise Financial.”

In DecemberAn Ameriprise consultant was also caught in the scam.
The incident may have compromised the personal and financial information of 598 people. This includes their name, address, phone number, email address, date of birth, income, net income, account numbers and policies, accounts and medical information.
