Labor Department Launches AI Apprenticeship Portal as Trump Admin Continues AI Policy Push

The US Department of Labor on Wednesday announced to initiate of a new site that aims to help workers and employers develop artificial intelligence skills and develop AI-focused learning programs.

The site, called AI in Registered Apprenticeship Innovation Portalwhich was launched during the National Apprenticeship Week event as a way to help organizations develop AI skills and create or renew registered apprenticeship programs in AI-related skills.

“This department is committed to ensuring that every American has the opportunity to succeed in our nation’s workforce, especially in a world rapidly being transformed by artificial intelligence,” Labor Secretary Keith Sonderling said in a statement.

The service learning program is based on the department’s AI Literacy Framework, release in February, which provides guidance on integrating AI capabilities into educational programs using educational tools, industry tools, and adaptive strategies.

According to the Department of Labor, the portal organizes its resources in three areas: AI skills and literacy in training enrollment programs, developing AI skills and industries, and ways to integrate AI into existing or new educational programs. It includes AI training modules relevant to industries, including education, finance, healthcare, and advanced manufacturing.

The department said employers can also use the portal to join national education programs, create new programs for AI positions, or modify existing programs to include AI-related skills.
