Kite Launches Kite Chain and Kite Agent Passport, Supporting Autonomous AI Agent Payments

April 30, 2026 – San Francisco, United States

Kite today announced the launch of the mainnet and Kite Agent Passport, an identity and payment solution designed for autonomous AI agents.

The launch marks Kite’s transition from testnet to production, and introduces payment and refund solutions designed for agent-driven transactions. The architecture integrates three components into a single platform: a stable native environment (Kite Chain), a basic application (Kite Agent Passport), and an Agent Interface & Experience.

Kite Agent Passport provides AI agents with a stable, secure wallet to store money and make purchases on behalf of users – while users have the power to spend money and an authorized location. For example, users can buy physical products, send them home, and let an agent pay, all within Claude, with the limits of use enforced by Passport. Kite Chain acts as a permanent residence, processing payments in digital dollars and connecting with traditional banks for everyday consumers. The Agent Interface & Experience enables agents and developers to interact with the system by registering agents, agent cables, and accessing services.

“The launch is just the beginning,” said Chi Zhang, Co-Founder and CEO of Kite. “Our goal is to create the reliable backbone of a driver-driven economy – where every independent organization operates with verified credentials, valid licenses, and unlimited stability. This is the foundation that will ultimately allow operators to do everything for you. We’re excited to build it for you.”

Now integrated with more than 90 service providers, the platform enables users to explore a wide range of payment cases – from shopping and travel planning to DIY automated agetic workflows using payment processing services.

Kite is also positioning itself as a point of agreement for major payment standards, including the x402 payment standard, Google’s AP2 protocol, Stripe’s Machine Payment Protocol (MPP), and Anthropic’s Model Context Protocol (MCP). The company is a member of the Linux Foundation’s Agetic AI Foundation (AAIF).

Kite raised $35 million in funding led by PayPal Ventures and General Catalyst. Driver integrations with PayPal and Shopify are underway, expanding Kite’s payment solutions into real-world commerce.
