A US financial services company is warning thousands of Americans that their personal information is at risk after its systems were breached.
New records by the Attorney General of Maine show that a cyber attack on MetroWest Community Federal Credit Union in Framingham, Massachusetts, may have exposed customers’ names, Social Security numbers, financial account numbers, tracking numbers and payment card numbers.
In total, 20,722 people have been affected.
“On September 1, 2025, MetroWest began receiving reports of suspicious activity on some systems on its network. Upon learning of this, MetroWest initiated an investigation with the assistance of third-party forensic experts to determine the nature of this activity.
MetroWest conducted a detailed risk analysis to determine the potential impacts, impacts, and associated impacts. MetroWest completed the investigation on January 12 and subsequently worked to obtain the addresses of the affected individuals. ”
MetroWest has reported the breach to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and is offering free support for the two years affected.
The financial firm also said it is training its employees to better protect their customers’ information and is using “additional safeguards”.
