In the current market environment, investors need to prepare their portfolios for downside and volatility, according to the head of JP Morgan Private Bank.
Grace Peters, the bank’s head of global finance, said recently interview and Bloomberg Television that the recent price increase is due to increased capital expenditure (capex).
“And obviously that’s not just related to AI buildout. If you look at governments directing investment, companies are following suit. The most recent earnings we saw last season saw a 12% increase in spending beyond AI capex, and I think that financial benefit is flowing to risk owners.”
Peters says JP Morgan Private Bank remains bullish on investments but believes portfolios need to be well-planned “for all possible outcomes.”
“And so we need money and inflation protection. So, infrastructure, which is still heard on the ground and the market. We think there will be instability, so hedge funds, we think, are a great asset to add. Gold as well.
And yet, when we look at our customers, about 20% still have money or have short-term securities that mature in less than 12 months. That’s why we think we want to be there for the bull market that we still see ahead. But we think there is a lot of courage that needs to be added to take advantage of some of these things. ”
