White House Shootings Interrupt Big Weeks As Trump Pushes Iran Peace Deal

A shooting outside the White House on Saturday briefly shut down the presidential palace and disrupted a tense week of talks on a US-Iran peace deal.

The incident happened a few hours later President Donald Trump announced an agreement to end the war with Iran he was “talking a lot.”

Troubles Grow in Washington

According to the Secret Service and multiple US media reports, a gunman opened fire near a security checkpoint at 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW shortly after 6pm ET. Secret Service agents returned fire, wounding the suspect. It is also said that another person who is standing nearby is injured.

The White House North Lawn was evacuated as reporters rushed into the press briefing room. Journalists at the site reported hearing between 15 and 30 gunshots. The lockdown was lifted less than an hour later.

The FBI is assisting the Secret Service in its investigation. Officials said the suspect had previously been ordered to stay away from the White House. No cause has been determined.

The security threat came at the end of a tumultuous week for President Trump’s political campaign.

US-Iran Deal in the Crosshairs?

Earlier, Trump announced that the deal with Iran was on the verge of collapse and said that reopening the Strait of Hormuz was part of the negotiations.

The proposed agreement comes between Pakistan and the Gulf states after months of conflict sparked by US and Israeli strikes on Iran in February. However, major disagreements remain over sanctions relief, Iran’s nuclear program, and long-term sanctions.

Saturday’s shooting adds to growing security concerns around Trump and the White House.

This event follows April 2026 Shooting of White House Correspondents and another armed standoff involving Secret Service agents near the National Mall earlier this month.

Financial markets reacted well to Trump’s comments on Iran earlier in the day, Bitcoin rebounded from a one-month low below $75,000 and several altcoins were gaining momentum. However, the shooting at the White House brought new uncertainty into an already tense political environment.
