The political effort built by the crypto industry found another group of success in Texas, reinforcing the news that the influence of the sector in US politics remains strong under the most favorable digital asset management.
According to reports from Eleanor Terret of Crypto In America, the crypto industry went 6-for-6 in backing the winners of the big Texas tournament that took place on Tuesday night.
Anti-Crypto Strikes at the Ballot Box
One of the biggest results came from the Democratic primary runoff in Texas’s 18th Congressional District. In that race, Terret said that Rep. Christian Menefee defeated Rep. 20-year-old Al Green.
Fairshake, a leading political action committee (PAC), claimed victory after spending nearly $6.5 million on the campaign, mostly through ads supporting Menefee.
The spokesman for Fairshake, Geoff Vetter, said that Green’s loss shows how the anti-crypto environment can have a real impact on the election, knowing that Green was the first Democrat to lose his seat. Vetter also said Fairshake will continue to “take back” leaders like Menefee.
Elsewhere in Texas, several other tribes have also gone to places favored by crypto-aligned groups. Followers Alex Mealer, Tom Sell, John Bonck, and Carlos De La Cruz all won their next race. In total, Fairshake is said to have spent about $1.8 million to support the candidates.
Crypto related activities were also part of other Republican results. Attorney General Ken Paxton’s upset victory over Sen. John Cornyn in the Republican Senate primary runff has also received support from crypto-linked funds.
California Top-Two Primary Beckons
With Texas now behind them, Terrett said that crypto political groups are already looking for the next target. The next state on Fairshake’s radar appears to be Maryland.
There, state legislator Adrian Boafo is running in the June Democratic primary for the 5th Congressional District, and Fairshake has already spent $2.12 million to support him.
Beyond that, the industry is also expected to focus on the two top California primaries in the 32nd Congressional District next week. In that race, long-time crypto opponent Rep. Brad Sherman faces Jake Levine, a former Biden White House staffer, both competing for the November election.
