Security researcher Taylor Hornby wants to add Monero (XMR) to his reading list after using Anthropic’s Claude Opus 4.8 to reveal a major flaw in Zcash (ZEC).
Hornby confirmed the move when asked if he would be looking into further private funding. Its acquisition of Zcash took about 30% off ZEC before developers sent an emergency patch.
How AI Audit Found the Zcash Bug
Hornby, created by nonprofit developer Shielded Labs in April, ran the audit included with Opus 4.8 on May 29.
A day later, he showed a problem in Orchard’s protected pool. Anthropic was they released the model a day earliermaking the acquisition one of his most high-profile defensive moves.
The virus, a low-level check, has been around since Orchard’s launch in May 2022. It could create unlimited, undetected ZEC fraud within the pool.

Monero is the largest private cryptocurrency. It hides everything by design rather than providing the security of Zcash.

ZEC has been stable near $363, a recovery of about 20% in the last 24 hours. As of this writing, the Zcash token was trading at $373.27.
