Pavel Durov unveiled the Telegram-style app for Apple Watch, expanding the platform’s features. The official vote to change the name of Toncoin (TON) to GRAM was rejected by 81.22%, with the renewal starting on June 15.
The blockchain retains the TON name. Participants should not exchange, bridge, or say anything. Balances, smart contracts, NFTs, staking, and decentralized finance (DeFi) roles are automated.
GRAM Rebrand Refreshes Telegraph’s Vision for 2018
The GRAM name came from a 2018 Telegraph white paper, before the SEC forced the project to suspend and return $1.7 billion to investors.
The community rebuilt the chain independently as Toncoin under the TON Foundation. Durov’s rebrand returns the brand to its original purpose.
Renewal is the fourth phase of the Make TON Great Again (MTONGA) road. Previous developments included Catchain 2.0which gavethe end of the second episode,and cut wages six timesto near-zero. Telegram also took over as TON’s main guarantor earlier this year.
Toncoin (TON) traded at $1.66 at the time of writing, down 7.14% over the previous 24 hours. The stock has a market cap of $4.43 billion. Money it rose sharply after news of Durov’s takeover in Mayjust to estimate some of the profits going into the rebrand.
Full flexibility in the exchange and environmental projects is expected on June 22. The 3 weeks of GRAM change it does not require technical changes to wallets, contracts, or protocols.
Apple Watch App Extends Telegram to New Device Category
Durov announced the Apple Watch app on X, bringing back support for the wearable after Telegram dropped its original watchOS presence years ago. The app integrates messaging, voice notes, GIFs, video playback, stickers, and location sharing from the handset.
These two actions form a deliberate process. The GRAM update expands the crypto experience of the Telegram ecosystem, while the Apple Watch expands the platform into a consumer device.
