A California healthcare company plans to pay more than $1.5 million to settle a lawsuit involving victims of a cyberattack that allegedly exposed patient information.
According to the establishment of the government websiteDeanco Healthcare, doing business as Mission Community Hospital, has agreed to set up a fund of $1.5 million related to data protection events on May 1, 2023, which can provide $5,100 each.
The site said that further investigation later revealed that the attacker had tampered with some database files containing personal information.
Information that may be displayed includes addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, financial account information, health insurance member IDs, complaint information and medical information about Mission Community Hospital care.
According to ComplianceHome, which tracks corporate laws, the breach was was sent at the US Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights as it affects 269,547 people.
The report says the two cases filed in Los Angeles County were later consolidated into one. Upon termination, class members may seek up to $5,000 in damages as a result of the incident.
Eligible California residents can also claim up to $100 in benefits, bringing the benefit to $5,100 per person. The settlement also provides two years of medical evaluation services to class members who elect to receive it, as well as any remaining funds from the settlement fund.
Deanco denies wrongdoing and responsibility, according to ComplianceHome.
