Wells Fargo’s trading, investment and financial advisory division is highlighting one S&P 500 sector that could serve as a defensive investment as other stocks hit higher levels.
Wells Fargo Advisors he says that it is “good” in the field of operational equipment because “combination of regional and national forces are working together to improve” the performance of the sector. The products sector includes industries such as containers and packaging, chemicals, metals and mining and construction.
According to Wells Fargo Advisors, the US equipment sector “offers a defensive tool that can help mitigate the risks of the near-term inflation move to equity portfolios” and could be more attractive to investors in the future.
“The Materials business has a strong presence around the world, and we see the current US global trade policy and tariffs as a big benefit for the sector as a whole.
In addition, the renewed focus on domestic products is creating increased demand and growth opportunities in the US. “
Among the smaller stocks in the commodities sector that investors are most interested in, Wells Fargo says industrial gases, specialty chemicals and construction materials are currently offering “good value.”
“In the case of Industrial Gas, we are attracted by high flows, consistent price dynamics, and diverse market demand.
Our opinion is that the Building Materials sub-sector should benefit from the strength in construction and non-residential construction (including data centers), where competition within the industry is limited.
In Specialty Chemicals, we believe that many companies are able to maintain strong margins over time due to strong customer relationships and their ability to deliver exceptional value. “
