Sending crypto from Binance to India is almost like sending money to a bank. Starting June 22, Binance will require Indian users to provide sender and receiver information for all crypto deposits and withdrawals.
The move is part of India’s tightening of the crypto compliance framework and could significantly change the way users move digital assets between exchanges and private wallets.
New Crypto Transfer Rules for Indian Users
Under the new rulesAny crypto transfer that involves a foreign wallet or other exchange will require information.
For crypto withdrawals, users must provide information about the beneficiary, including their full name, country of residence, city, and recipient name if applicable.
For crypto deposits, users must provide information about the sender, including their full name, PAN or national ID number, address, residence, and location information.
Most importantly, the requirements apply regardless of the size of the business.
What Will Not Change?
The new requirements only apply when crypto is being moved into or out of Binance through external wallets or other platforms.
Users who only buy, sell, hold, or sell crypto within Binance will not need to provide additional information.
These changes do not affect fiat deposits, withdrawals, or transactions within Binance.
Why India is Strengthening Laws
These changes were made to comply with India’s anti-money laundering laws under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and the Financial Intelligence Unit-India (FIU-IND).
Most importantly, it marks the implementation of the international “Travel Rule”, a standard already in place in major economies including Europe, Japan, Singapore, and South Korea.
Currently, the law requires crypto exchanges to collect information about all parties involved in the transfer of digital assets, similar to the way banks handle wire transfers.
The End of Anonymous Crypto Transfer
Over the years, the appeal of crypto has come from allowing users to move assets with minimal personal information. Managers around the world are now moving differently.
India’s recent demand shows that crypto is becoming more integrated into the traditional economy, but at a much more private cost.
For Binance users, June 22 is the last day. It is the beginning of a new era where crypto transfers are more similar to banking transactions.
