A healthcare company plans to pay $35,000,000 to settle a cybersecurity lawsuit that allegedly exposed patient information.
According to the establishment of the government websiteLaboratory Corporation of America Holdings, also known as Labcorp, has accepted a lawsuit related to the data breach at the American Medical Collection Agency.
The settlement covers individuals whose information was sent by Labcorp to the Retrieval-Masters Creditors Bureau, doing business as the American Medical Collection Agency, and who were on computers affected by the incident.
The breach reportedly affected AMCA computers between August 1, 2018 and March 30, 2019.
According to the HIPAA Journal, up to 7,700,000 Labcorp patients were affected affected is a violation of the AMCA.
The settlement provides $35,000,000 in liquidated damages, audit services, other disbursements, notice and administrative fees, taxes, service awards, fees and attorney’s fees.
Class members may submit claims for out-of-pocket losses up to $5,000 per person. They may also want to pay an additional fee of $50.
Regular group members can also choose to receive two years of CyEx Medical Shield Pro for medical information monitoring.
