Apple has been accused of exaggerating and misrepresenting Safari’s privacy, leading users to believe their browsing was more secure than it actually was.
New class system he says Safari allows third parties to track users with “fingerprints” even though Apple says the browser prevents tracking.
According to the complaint,
“Safari sends information about users’ browsers and devices to every page they visit when browsing the web. This is linked to so-called ‘fingerprinting’…
Safari’s default settings do not provide protection against canvas fingerprinting, which allows third parties to collect information about how invisible or hidden content on the browser’s canvas is drawn, revealing the user’s hardware and software characteristics.
Critics say the tracking scripts continue to download and run even in Private Browsing mode, while the Privacy Report misleadingly indicates that these browsers are blocked.
Apple has yet to issue an official response to the allegations.
