The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is notifying more than 3 million people after a data breach at a retailer exposed confidential information.
Department he says an unauthorized actor accessed the vendor’s systems and obtained driver’s license details, passport numbers where they were issued, email addresses, phone numbers and residential addresses.
“We recognize the seriousness of this issue and have identified and implemented additional security measures to protect customer information.
Many of our employees are hunters and fishermen and were affected by this incident. We are committed to continuing to work with licensees to implement additional security measures to prevent future incidents. “
The agency said it took immediate action after the discovery to inform affected people and offer one year of free monitoring.
An investigation by the Texas Cyber Command is underway to determine the full extent of the incident.
The department emphasized its commitment to working with suppliers on additional safeguards.
