A California couple found $17,450 missing from their Chase checking account after an ATM visit revealed fraud.
The pair found three fake checks totaling $6,450 and 17 fraudulent online payments adding up to more than $11,000 on their statement. reports ABC7.
The pair had just ordered new checks from a third-party printing company, which apparently revealed their account details through the checks they were sent.
He rushed to the bank the next day to close the account after seeing suspicious activity, including payments to Verizon Wireless and credit cards that weren’t his.
At first the bank gave little information about how the fraud was carried out and required proof of certain checks, which led to frustration as they refused to go to other banks for verification.
ABC7’s 7 On Your Side investigated and helped recover all the money after Chase promptly returned the checks but needed the rest of the documents.
