An international police operation has revealed the huge role cryptocurrency is playing in love scams by securing a large wallet to tie up a young suspect.
As part of Interpol’s Operation First Light 2026 to force In an effort spanning 97 countries including the United States, authorities identified a crypto wallet operated by a 20-year-old man who was arrested in Thailand, Interpol said.
In 10 months, the wallet generated more than $ 122 million associated with fraudulent transactions, often moving them through different exchanges to avoid cash flow.
The nationwide sweep resulted in 5,811 arrests and a forfeiture of $293 million. More than 142,000 people were found worldwide.
Operation First Light, which operated between January and April, marks a global effort to disrupt fraud networks that exploit digital assets.
