A 69-year-old Texas grandmother lost her life savings of $100,000 in a brutal bank robbery.
Police say Vickie Nelson of Hardin County received calls from callers posing as bank officials and police officers warning of fraud on her accounts, reports KFDM.
He made large sums of money in separate transactions between July 9 and 11. The hackers told him to withdraw the money and give the money away as part of an attempt to deal with fake news about his accounts.
The plot ended in a dramatic twist at the Family Dollar store in Kountze when three of Nelson’s grandchildren stepped in to stop the suspects from collecting more cash. The nephews were later accused of assaulting one of the suspected fraudsters.
Imran Hossain and his wife Zakia Hossain, both 29 years old, are accused of criminal activity and abuse of the elderly. Kountze Police Chief Dale Williford said the two were also arrested on ICE detainers on suspicion of being in the country illegally. Their 1-year-old daughter, who was with them at the last placement, is now in CPS custody.
Court and police documents allege the two participated in a terror-driven attack against the elderly woman. Williford described the team’s efforts, identifying at least three people involved, including a supervisor and another telephone operator.
