Long-term care pharmacies that operate in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and Virginia have experienced a security breach that could compromise the personal information of thousands of people.
IPPC Inc. and its affiliates IPPC of New York LLC and Innovative Pharmacy LLC to say that an unknown actor reached the company’s technology between September 18 and 19.
The perpetrator copied and viewed the files during this time.
After reviewing the files to determine which data pertains to whom, the IPPC says the breach exposed personal and medical information, including name, Social Security number, medical information and health insurance information.
The IPPC began reporting on the incident on February 27th. On April 1, the pharmacy began sending letters to people who may have been affected by the breach.
“We encourage you to be alert to identity theft and fraud during your review your account statements, profit statements, and free credit report monitoring for suspicious activity and error detection. Suspicions should be promptly reported to stakeholders including the insurance company, health care providers, and/or financial institutions. “
According to the Office of Human Rights at the US Department of Health and Human Services, the hack may have affected 133,862 people.
