A new poll shows 79% of Americans want a long-term US-Iran war. This comes as President Donald Trump told Congress that the war would resume on July 7, which would free up troops for another 60 days without congressional approval.
The change comes months before November, when pump prices could hurt Republicans in Congress.
Many Americans now expect a long war with Iran
The Reuters/Ipsos research surveyed 1,019 US adults over three days, ending Sunday. Only one in five, 18%, still expect the war to end in a few weeks. The rest do not see a quick exit.
Furthermore, only 37% supported the protests, which resumed on June 26 after Washington criticized Tehran for hitting commercial ships.
Previous research has reported a similar story. The Financial Times The vote got 58% of the voters he judged that the war was not worth it. Another Generation Lab poll of adults between the ages of 18 and 34 found 77% called the attack on Iran wrong.
Hormuz Blockade Causes Market Panic
On Monday, Trump took the oath to block Iranian ports near the Strait and deduct 20% from each transit cargo. Tehran had already called for the channel to be shut down.
“The Hormuz Strait IS OPEN, and it will be USABLE, with or without Iran… The USA, from now on, is known as the ‘GUARDIAN OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT’… reimbursable, at a cost of 20% of all goods sent,” he said.

The merchants moved quickly. Crude was up nearly 4%, and Bitcoin (BTC) fell to around $62,600 amid fears that the price will remain volatile for some time.
The survey also revealed that 6 out of 10 respondents expect the price of gasoline to remain high in the coming year. Pump prices are already close to $3.87 a gallon, above where they stood before the war.
Meanwhile, the war has weighed heavily on Trump’s position. He said he got a 59% approval rating.however the New York Times tracker strengthens him by about 39%.
Rates are rising as the November midterm approaches. His deep endorsement increases pressure on Republicans, who are at risk of losing the House and possibly the Senate in November.
