In short
- Argentina’s Ministry of Finance launched the “Digital Twin” initiative, which aims to measure the impact of social policies on their culture before they are implemented.
- The promotional video caused immediate laughter due to the faulty glasses, the AI-generated avatar of Minister Sandra Pettovello, the Singaporean flag, and the visible Amazon AWS logo.
- Opposition political leaders have issued official notices, and privacy experts have warned that the system lacks a regulatory framework and could enable large-scale algorithmic surveillance.
In Argentina Ministry of Human Capital has a bold claim: It can predict the future of society using artificial intelligence. President Javier Milei announced the “Gemelo Digital Social” (which translates to “Social Digital Twin”) on Friday via X, calling it “social revolution.”
He closed the announcement with “MAGA. VLLC!” – a nod to Trump’s words on his side – lest someone miss the political signal.
This system, the “digital twin,” was created as a form, a change of the Argentine people. It taps into multiple government and private organizations, then uses AI to predict events, anticipate potential events, and implement decisions in real time.
The stated goal: to move Argentina from a “sustainable country” – which responds to people’s problems after the fact – to a “predictive country” that can model poverty, analyze the effects of aid, and map the development of people from childhood to adulthood.
Digital twins are established technology. It has been used in engineering, urban planning, and construction for many years – to simulate how a bridge will perform, or how traffic will move before a road is built. Government of Argentina what to say this may be the first time that the concept has been applied to social policy at a national level.
The system can collect data, identify trends, project activities, and turn social events into what the ministry calls “people intelligence.” In practice: a central database drawn from the public and private sector – health, finance, education, consumption – fed through an AI model that informs policy makers about the future. Think about the season of poverty.
It is not an unprecedented idea in the government. Decrypt it was said in April 2025 that the UK Ministry of Justice is secretly building an AI system to predict who will kill, destroying mental health records, past histories, and self-harm reports from over 100,000 people. The program immediately drew comparisons to Phillip K. Dick’s book and the movie “Minority Report” and caused a civil rights firestorm.
Argentina’s goal is softer – human optimization rather than crime prediction – but the design is the same: collect personal data and tell you what happens next.
The Internet does something
This vision was for the future. Execution was not.
The promotional video release announcement about Digital Twin he had many faults which caused instant scorn. At the 0:35 mark, a picture labeled “MULTIPLES FUENTES” – missing the official text on esdrújula multiples. A major error appeared at 0:54: a full-screen announcement that the system is “PRIMER SISTEMA QUE AYUDA PREDICIR EL FUTURO”—dropping the “a” before the verb (which makes the whole thing sound weird in Spanish) and misspelling “predecir” as “predicir.”
A digital twin system that promises to predict the future cannot predict typos.
“It didn’t say any spelling mistakes.”
Developer and tech commentator Maximiliano Firtman wrote about all the scandals: “Grammar and spelling mistakes, fake minister offering holograms, Singaporean flags, Amazon AWS logo, bad words.
It fits the pattern. A few weeks ago, Milei’s official photo on her desk at the Casa Rosada (presidential residence) went viral for through the window behind him, the Casa Rosada appeared again. An AI-generated portrait of the president, inside the palace, looking at the same palace. The president’s digital communications team has a recurring problem with uncontrolled AI output.
The political conflict came quickly. Opposition senator Agustín Rossi presented a document demanding clarification on the rules of the program, data protection, and guaranteeing the rights of citizens. “The future will not be to monitor citizens,” Rossi wrote on X. The Milei Government – which has faced repeated scrutiny on his relationship with technology users since Libra meme coins commented publicly.
The secret experts went further. The extensive collection of real data on Argentine citizens legally requires strict anonymization protocols. No such plan has been announced.
Expert Julian Roô he established a concern on a sustainable level: “Argentina will be a laboratory rat to analyze how people work if social change measures put citizens at risk, productivity, or behavior. Starting today, Argentina is moving from social policies based mainly on people’s decisions to self-predictive systems fed by AI and big data.”
Political analyst Pablo Munoz Iturrieta wrote: “It sounds futuristic and very useful.”
Senator Rossi’s request for information is still pending. The Ministry of Human Capital did not provide details on the video errors or the data management system that the system would work on.
