The X thread that claims Anthropic’s Claude AI has helped recover the long lost Bitcoin a purse of nearly $400,000 went in on Wednesday, attracting millions of people.
The post came from X user “Cprkrn” who said Claude helped unlock a Bitcoin wallet with 5. BTC which was said to be inaccessible for nearly nine years.
“Holy shit OMG Claude just messed this up,” Cprkrn he wroteputting Anthropic and CEO Dario Amodei.

Although the footage shared on X did not show evidence that Claude had bypassed or cracked Bitcoin’s encryption, the footage appeared to show AI helping to analyze files stored in the wallet and recover passwords.
According to the documents, Cprkrn tried to recover the wallet using tools including btcrecover and Hashcat, programs used to try to combine passwords against encrypted data, but without success.
Cprkrn said he eventually uploaded files from an old college computer to Claude, who he said helped identify the file attached to the random text found in the copy.
They wrote: “Found an OLD wallet file that the hack successfully extracted. “I was locked out for 11+ years because I stonewalled and changed my password.”
“It was a very transparent opening,” added Cprkrn.
However, wallet recovery experts debate how much can be done because of the same Claude versus the wallet file, the cryptic text, and the history needed to recreate the user’s previous password.
“What Claude did was analyze a lot of historical data and find out what matches old wallets or passwords,” one expert said. Decrypt. “This is not a password cracking issue as much as a law enforcement decision.”
