A Rosemead resident is now in jail after posing as a McAfee Security representative to steal thousands from a 70-year-old Camarillo man.
The victim reportedly reported the theft to police in May 2026 after receiving a call from someone who claimed to be from a security company. reports KTLA 5 News.
The officer says the thief told him his bank account information may have been compromised and provided correct bank information to make it appear legitimate.
The victim says that a few days later, the fraudster forced him to withdraw $84,000 and meet with a McAfee Security employee. He says he was instructed to give a verbal confirmation before handing over the money.
After following the instructions and giving the money to 44-year-old Binchao Cen, the elderly man said he realized he had been robbed and reported the matter to the Camarillo Police Department.
Authorities said on June 30, they approached Cen while he was on his way to meet another victim. Police said they immediately arrested Cen, who was found with a large amount of cash and a modified airsoft gun.
Cen is currently charged with theft by impersonation, grand theft and theft from an elderly person. His bail was set at $500,000.
