The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has appointed DJ Hennes as director of its Market Participants Division. Chairman Michael S. Selig announced the hiring on Monday, citing Hennes’ work in crypto and prediction markets.
The Market Participants Division oversees brokers, switch dealers, fund managers, and other CFTC registrants.
A Crypto and Prediction Markets Mandate
Mr. Hennes will lead the trial’s compliance, registration, and communications with independent regulatory agencies such as the National Futures Association.
Mike Selig established the appointment as a key part of the agency’s push to improve compliance management.
The President-elect Trump has been pushing for clear regulation of digital assets and state-run prediction markets since taking office in December 2025.
“He brings a wealth of experience advising clients across the financial industry, and his work in crypto assets and the prediction markets will be invaluable as we seek to ensure compliance with CFTC rules and regulations,” Selig said. he said.
Hiring comes as CFTC they comply with the new rules surrounding event contracts. The agency has also pushed back against government restrictions on licensed market prediction platforms.
His History
Hennes joins the CFTC from KPMG, where he advised banks and brokers tracking digital peripherals. Prior to that, he spent 15 years at Promontory Financial Group, eventually leading the American capital markets division.
He holds degrees in history and economics from Vanderbilt University. Hennes has spoken publicly forecast-market rulesincluding KPMG online.

His appointment puts the law enforcement officer at the top of one of the agency’s oversight tools during crypto rulemaking.
