Charles Hoskinson, who founded Cardano, has broken his silence in what he described as one of the most difficult times for ten years of his work, dealing with the cost of ADA, the problems of the position of the Cardano Foundation, and his role in the future in the environment in the raw and deeply human video address.
On ADA Returns to $3
Hoskinson was direct about one thing that many in the community wanted to hear more: he does not see pumping the ADA tree as his duty, and he did not.
“If you want a leader who can make the ADA cost go back to normal, I’m not your guy,” he said. “I never got into the game for cryptocurrencies to be so important.”
He admitted that ADA went from 2.5 cents to $3 in one year, pointing to that record as proof of how quickly things can change in crypto. But he also made it clear that the creation of another cost that is managed through backrooms and political control is something he sees as unacceptable, regardless of what the community wants.
He said: “If you play the token game, you can’t win because there’s always someone new who wants the token to go higher.”
His Biggest Acknowledgment at Work
In perhaps the most famous moment of the address, Hoskinson called the design of the Cardano Foundation the worst mistake of his entire career.
“It is impossible to blame them on any level,” he said. “You have no say in who has the ADA in the board, how they do things, what they do, and the staff that are there. They are at the top and they have no problems.”
He said that houses where people cannot be fired or kept for sale that the community, at best, without limits, and at worst, selfishness and cruelty instead of killing.
On Poison aimed at Him
An analysis of Hoskinson’s recent social media responses found that nearly one in three responses were hateful, abusive or profane, with consistent signs including language similar to a few anonymous accounts that escalated the abuse. Hoskinson said the scale and nature of the violence has had a psychological impact.
“I think people are frustrated and angry and looking for someone to blame,” he said. “But I don’t want to be in the way of communication where a third of the time it’s said.”
Cardano is not dead
Hoskinson closed with a message aimed at those celebrating Cardano’s challenges.
He said: “Don’t believe for a second that Cardano is dead. “To all the podcasters and other people who are dancing, shame on you. You have made nothing, you give nothing. And you dance on the grave of something that people believe in and dream about.”
He said he is stepping back for a moment to think and think, and he encouraged many Cardano people to do the same, saying that this time is painful but ultimately healthy.
“These are the moments that tell you who your true friends are and force you to accept who you are and why you are a part of it.”
