More than one million bank accounts were compromised in 2025 as cybercriminals rely heavily on insurance fraudsters to obtain financial information.
Cybersecurity company Kaspersky he says more than one million bank accounts belonging to the world’s 100 largest banks were hacked by malware, and the account information shared online.
“According to Kaspersky Digital Footprint Intelligence (DFI), in 2025 more than a million bank accounts worldwide belonging to the world’s 100 largest banks were affected by hackers: the information of these accounts was freely shared on the dark web. The countries with the highest number of compromised accounts per bank were India, Spain and India.
Kaspersky says attackers are increasingly moving away from cyber-banking malware and are instead using more familiar hacking techniques, including malware and distribution of false information through private marketplaces.
The company says mobile banking threats are also on the rise, with mobile banking malware attacks rising nearly 1.5 times in 2025 compared to last year. Kaspersky reported that the presence of infostealer malware on personal computers increased by 59% worldwide from 2024 to 2025, which has contributed to the rise of information security breaches.
The findings are based on analysis conducted by Kaspersky Digital Footprint Intelligence, which tracks data breaches and data leaks related to cybercriminal activities.
