A man has lost a lot of his crypto after falling for a job scam that he claims involves simple online tasks.
The victim, Rick S., received a text message about an opportunity to earn extra money by installing software to support a company known to be highly visible, reports Fox news.
Rick he says he was skeptical at the beginning but finally he was convinced to accept the job.
At first I didn’t doubt it. The ‘company’ had to upgrade the software to find out more about the software. This is thought to be related to a company called APPTimizer. I called myself an investigator and I believed this was legitimate business.”
But the service was a crypto task scam, which usually allows people to withdraw a small amount of money that they earn, which makes the service legitimate, but after a while, the supposed crypto deposit is required to open the account.
“It led me to believe that the ‘APPS’ I put in, I had a lot of money. It was all done through Crypto. In short, I lost about $10k. A hard lesson to learn.”
The FBI says people often pay in an attempt to recover money that the platform claims to have earned.
The organization says that the fraud of crypto services is often based on the idea that the more you invest, the more money you get.
