Midjourney, the AI company best known for its imaging platform of the same name, is expanding into healthcare.
On Wednesday, the company was unveiled Midjourney MedicalThe new division is developing what it calls “Ultrasonic CT,” a whole-body imaging system that combines ultrasound hardware with AI-powered image reconstruction. Midjourney says the technology can create a detailed three-dimensional image in about 60 seconds.
“Our goal at Midjourney Medical is to ship approximately 50,000 of these scanners worldwide over the next six years and use these sensors to perform billions of tests every month,” Midjourney said in a statement.

According to the company, the scanner places users in a water-filled chamber and lowers them through a ring containing about 500,000 ultrasonic transmitters and receivers.
“When you go down in the water, hundreds of tiny particles interact, send waves, listen together, compress and put the data into large groups where hundreds of computers divide the work,” the company said.
Midjourney plans to introduce the technology through Midjourney Spa, a medical center expected to open in San Francisco in late 2027 with hot tubs, saunas, cold rooms, and massage rooms – with plans to expand in 2028.
“We think it is possible that with sufficient foresight in the future, the world can prevent 30% of all deaths and 50% of all health care costs,” the company said. “The social, physical, and health aspects of all these things are hard to understand, and hard to explain.”
Looking to the future, Midjourney said the system could produce MRI-like images in about 60 seconds without radiation or strong magnets — a process that typically takes 30 minutes or more for a full-body scan. The announcement comes as AI developers are increasingly making inroads into healthcare, even in digital ways. “We hope with this announcement you will begin to see that Midjourney is a research lab that only asks what we can build for people, and what we can change based on people’s experiences,” the company said.
