Personal and Medical Records of 160,312 Americans May Be Exposed After Massive Data Breach Hits Healthcare Firm


The data of hundreds of thousands of Americans is at risk after a healthcare company was hit by a cybersecurity attack.

According to the US Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights, Southern Illinois Dermatology has report Hacking and an IT incident involving 160,312 people, is a breach involving a web server.

In a notice sent to consumers in April, the company said it learned that some systems within its network were compromised in November 2025 and that it had launched an investigation with third-party security experts.

The review later determined that the files that may have been accessed or obtained in March by an unauthorized third party contained personal and protected information.

The company says the information that may be affected may include names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, phone numbers, email addresses and medical record numbers, which contain information that varies from person to person. It also claims that there was no sign of identity theft or fraud as a result of what happened at the time the information was provided.

HIPAA Journal is different reports that the investigation confirmed unauthorized access to certain areas of the Internet where patient data was stored and that files could be copied.

The book also says that the information letters started being sent on April 2, 2026 and that the threat group claimed to be responsible for sending the samples online. Southern Illinois Dermatology said it has taken steps to strengthen its online security practices following the incident.
