The XRP Ledger (XRPL) was created differently from most blockchains because its main purpose was not to support speculation in the first place. According to Aditya TurakhiaVice President of Institutional Markets at Ripple, the network was built from the beginning of payments, financial institutions, and the rapid movement of value.
1. Purpose-building for Payments
The founders created XRPL specifically for payments and transactions. Instead of trying to be a general blockchain for every possible application, its architecture is focused on one important thing: moving value quickly, reliably, and cheaply.
That design choice helped XRPL achieve a stable time of around 3-4 seconds, with transaction fees often less than one cent.
2. No Reason to Bind Anything Through Smart Contracts
Unlike most blockchains that rely heavily on smart contracts, XRPL images it has several financial services that are built directly into the book itself.
This means that developers don’t have to create everything from scratch. Native functionality already supports things like:
- Collateral
- Decentralized Exchange (DEX)
- Central order books
- Tools related to compliance
- Tokenized goods
Developers and financial institutions can access this information through API endpoints, allowing them to connect to existing transactions.
3. More Simplicity Means Better Speed
The network also includes financial services, so producers do not need to enter into complex contracts for payment and transactions.
This reduces unnecessary code sections and helps make the process faster, more predictable, and less expensive.
The result is an infrastructure that enables fast, affordable payments without forcing users to pay high gas bills or wait for long confirmation periods.
4. Designed for real world Payments
Next is the design philosophy, if someone buys a coffee at Starbucks, they don’t have to pay $20 or $30 in gas bills or wait a few minutes for the payment to be confirmed.
XRPL prioritizes low-cost, fast, and reliable daily payments.
5. Focus on Adoption
Any major ledger development serves a larger purpose. Multiplying children in a safe and dangerous way.
The XRPL team may plan to make changes to the network, but the goal remains to make the ledger more efficient for payments and value transfers.
6. The Same Architecture Can Support More Information
The speed-and-price trend is not limited to XRP. The same XRPL infrastructure can support stablecoins, tokenized assets, and other forms of digital currency.
This is why Ripple’s CEO argues that the speed of XRPL is not an accident. Ledger was built from day one around a single goal: to move money and value quickly, cheaply, and reliably.
