Ales Michel has been officially confirmed as a speaker at Bitcoin 2026where he will give a important words titled “Diversifying Central Bank Reserves With Bitcoin” on April 28 at 10:20 AM PT on the Nakamoto Stage at The Venetian Resort in Las Vegas. Michl serves as the Governor of the Czech National Bank (CNB) – and his presence at the event marks an important moment as he becomes the first bank governor to speak at the Bitcoin Conference.
In January 2025, Michel provided distributing up to 5% of the CNB’s €140 billion reserves in Bitcoin, citing its low correlation with traditional assets such as bonds as the main factor that makes it an attractive diversification strategy. The proposal attracted international attention and pushback. The idea drew the attention of countries that saw pushback from central banks. As from the President of the European Central Bank, Christine Lagarde, who publicly he said he was confident that Bitcoin will not enter the reserves of the central banks of the EU. Although the Czech Republic does not use the euro, Michl did not show any concern for the opposition.
In November 2025, CNB produced purchase of its first digital asset – with a $1 million test that included Bitcoin, a stablecoin based on the US dollar, and a token component, which was built within the CNB Lab to test the practicality of handling blockchain tools from a central bank. Michel framed it as a project rather than an afterthought. “The purpose was to test decentralized bitcoin from the perspective of a central bank and evaluate the potential of its use in diversifying our reserves,” he said. “We will inform the public about our continuous experience and present a review every two to three years.”
