A jury has found a Wells Fargo employee in Mesa, Arizona guilty of stealing $655,000 from the bank.
US Department of Justice he says Brooke McDonough, formerly known as Brooke Taylor, has been sentenced to 48 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release.
Court documents show The prosecutors accused the 35-year-old branch manager of stealing money from ATMs and a storage room inside the branch between June 2021 and February 2022.
McDonough was also accused of manipulating monthly balance sheets and falsifying bank statements to cover up shortfalls.
The scheme came to light after he resigned, and a federal investigation found that McDonough deposited most of the stolen money into his bank accounts.
Prosecutors say they used different ATMs at multiple bank branches and broke down deposits into smaller sections to avoid mandatory reporting of deposits of more than $10,000.
McDonough was convicted of embezzlement by a bank employee, processing and selling money.
The DOJ said the discovery sparked an internal investigation that led to three other bank employees being placed on administrative leave.
