In short
- Grayscale has filed with the SEC to launch the first US ETF linked to Worldcoin, a biometric crypto project founded by OpenAI’s Sam Altman.
- The Grayscale Worldcoin ETF will own WLD and trade on Nasdaq under the ticker GWLD, with BitGo as manager and BNY Mellon as issuer.
- WLD was up about 8% on the news, although it was down about 5.5% for the week.
Worldcoin’s WLD symbol jumped after the asset manager Grayscale paid to set up the first US fund exchange trading built with biometric crypto work, a move to bring Sam Altman and the eye scanner was still a step closer to Wall Street.
WLD rose nearly 8% over the 24 hours following the filing to $0.387, ending a bad week that still left it roughly 5.5% in the past seven days, CoinGecko data.
On Monday, Grayscale filed a lawsuit S-1 registration document of the Grayscale Worldcoin ETF, a “no-nonsense” vehicle that will hold WLD – the global token of the World Network – and track its value through the CoinDesk Worldcoin Benchmark Rate, according to the filing.
If approved, the fund could be listed on Nasdaq under GWLD’s GWLD using the exchange’s listings – meaning it could launch without separate changes to SEC rules once WLD meets Nasdaq’s requirements. BitGo Bank & Trust will hold the tokens, while the Bank of New York Mellon will act as sponsor and custodian, it said. WLD is the 55th-largest cryptocurrency, with a market capitalization of about $1.4 billion, according to CoinGecko.
The eye-catching work of Sam Altman
Worldcoin –changed to simply “Country” in 2024 – it was launched by the CEO of OpenAI Sam Altman to make the whole world “human testimony” system. They use a circular device called Orb analyzing people’s irises, and issuing a unique “World ID” meant to prove that someone is a real person and not an AI bot, and issuing WLD tokens to authenticated users. The project also managed the analysis of the collected biometric data in the EU and in countries including Brazil and Kenya.
The listing of the ETF is the latest sign of the organization’s interest in the token. Last year, Nasdaq-listed Eightco made it the first corporate economy around WLD, and collect one of them big reveal in cryptocurrency.
Company recommendations Grayscale ETF
The filing continues Grayscale’s efforts to expand its crypto ETF lineup. The company converted its Bitcoin trust portfolio to an ETF after a the court wins at the SEC, later launched Ethereum is a great currencyand storage or delivery built with Dogecoin, Solana, XRP, Litecoin and Chainlink, among others.
Currently, the filing is the first step: the fund cannot sell until the registration starts and WLD delists from Nasdaq. But if it does, it would give everyday investors their first chance to hold Worldcoin through a US checking account.
